NHBZ Welcomes Our New Assistant Rabbi
After an extensive search process that moved forward even during the pandemic, Rabbi Avi Okin has joined Nusach Hari B’nai Zion as the congregation’s new Assistant Rabbi. Rabbi Okin just arrived in St. Louis from Los Angeles with his wife Devorah Tova and their one-year-old son Binyomin and will formally begin in his position on September 1. In addition to providing rabbinic support to the congregation under NHBZ’s Senior Rabbi, Rabbi Ze’ev Smason, he will be focused on programming for young families and singles, children, and young adults.
Daily Shofar Blowing at NHBZ!
Beginning this Sunday, August 30, a Tekias Shofar (Shofar blowing) at Noon will take place in the NHBZ parking lot (East side). Come — please wear masks and remain in your cars — while either Rabbi Smason or Rabbi Okin provide us with the opportunity to hear the shofar. You’ll have a blast! Listening to a daily shofar blowing is customary each week day during the month of Elul. Rabbis Smason and Okin will alternate, Sunday through Thursday, at Noon. (No shofar blowing on Friday)
