NHBZ President’s Message on the Poway Tragedy

First and foremost, our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by the heartbreaking shooting on Shabbos at the Chabad in Poway.  This scene is becoming all too common.  However, we simply cannot allow ourselves to become numbed by the increasing frequency of attacks upon our Jewish family, and quite frankly upon the families of many other faith based organizations.

I would like to assure the entire congregation that all steps are being taken to insure the safety of our members and guests. Security will be in place this weekend not only during services but also at all sessions with our Scholar in Residence.  Additional steps are being taken to confirm minyan and staff safety, including the locking of all doors and creation of an entry system designed to allow into our building only those with a legitimate purpose.

While I shudder at the thought of our Shul or any house of worship becoming a protected fortress, we have an obligation to insure the safety and comfort  of those who choose to come through our doors.  My message to you today is that all steps are being taken to do so and I ask for your understanding in this difficult time.
