Sisterhood Book Club News

Book Club’s next book is The Golem and the Jinni: A Novel, by Helene Wecker. The book will be discussed on Monday, July 31, 7:15-8:45 PM at the home of Sharon Summers. Combining the genre of historical fiction with elements of fantasy, this inventive and delightful novel tells the story of two displaced magical creatures in 19th-century New York City.
Sharon will lead the discussion which promises to go beyond the exciting and adventurous lore of the story to consider philosophical questions of free will, faith, and what it means to be human.

Shabbos Chazon
The Shabbat before the Ninth of Av is called Shabbat Chazon (“Shabbat of Vision”) after the opening words of the day’s haftarah, which is the third of the series of readings known as “The Three of Rebuke.” On this Shabbat, say the Chassidic masters, we are granted a vision of the Third Temple; we may not see it with our physical eyes, but our soul sees it and becomes empowered to break free of our present state of galut(exile and spiritual displacement) and bring about the Redemption and the rebuilding of the Temple.
