Yom HaShoah program – Voices of the Generation – Recorded
On Wednesday, April 7 ~ 7:30 pm NHBZ presented a Yom HaShoah program entitled “Voices of the Generations” presented by the author, Julie Kohner. You can watch that program on YouTube.
Julie Kohner – VOICES OF THE GENERATIONS
As a way of remembering it is important not to forget how the human race has allowed injustice and deprivation to target specific ethnic or religious peoples. If we look back into our own past, it is possible to find that such discrimination has come into our lives or the lives of our families.
Julie Kohner is the daughter of a Holocaust survivor. In 1990 she created Voices of the Generations as a way to preserve and share the memories of Holocaust survivor stories. Julie’s mother, Hanna Kohner, survived four concentration camps including Auschwitz. She passed away in 1990.
Since then it has been Julie’s passion to tell her mother’s unique story of love overcoming evil against the backdrop of World War II Europe. Her experience was also the basis for an early 1950’s television program, the first to tell a survivor’s story.
Julie hopes that people of all ages, ethnic and religious backgrounds will be moved and inspired by her mother’s story and the stories of other survivors and their children, known as the second generation. This will keep the memory alive.

Voices of the Generations, Inc. is a non-profit organization with a mission to bear witness as a second generation. In as little as ten years there may no longer be a Holocaust survivor to share their stories in person.
